Colors of Winter

I was testing out a new lens and saw frost all over our plants outside and they looked really pretty. Since it looks like we won’t be getting much snow I wanted to take advantage of the frost and how it contrasts with the red berries on the plant. I added some more of a blue cast and took the reds from the background away to give a colder look. My settings were at 1/125, f/3.2, and an ISO of 100.

I like that the bundle of buds is the only part in the photo that is in focus. It really draws my attention straight to the center of interest rather than my eyes wandering around the entire plant. I love the lighting as well. The brightness really shows how cold it is and makes the little water droplets stand out.

I like how the only things in focus are the little buds and the branch. The warm reds make the picture look warm behind the cold blue background. The frost adds a lot of beauty to the photo. =) VD-ERHS

What I like about the photo is the color of the plant and branches. The element being used in this photo is the use of close-up and depth of field. With the foreground in focus while the background is out of focus. I think the focus and lighting are good. The photo reflects the mood of winter with all the frost on the branches and plant.

I love the reds contrasting against the winter hues. The focus on just the reds and the foreground/background blurred just makes this picture even better. It really shows the essence of winter!

The colors are really great in this picture. I love how the red contrasts with the other colors so well. I think you chose a great point on the tree to focus on.

The composition of the photo is really good. With the branches crossing each other is creates interest and movement throughout the photograph. Since the main subject of the photo is the flower buds it is good that they are such a bright red and creates a good focal point in the photo. There is much detail in the photo and it is able to show textures in the branch along with in the flower bud. The picture seems to have a deep depth of field since the background is all blurred.
