Photo by: Sam Frasier This photo was taken for our ‘Still Life’ assignment. I had to provide extra light to make the milk really stand out. My shutter speed was 1/1600 because I had to get the milk splashing, and I wanted it to be very crisp. The difficult part was how to get enough light in the picture, because I was inside. I really enjoyed this assignment, and I think this is a pretty cool photo.

I used a Nikon D40x with a Macro Lens to take this photo, and the subject is the circular black spot. I really like how the focus exposes the texture of the wood, and the composition of the cracks in the wood.

This photo felt homey to me, and the antique touch I made in photoshop enhanced that. If I could change anything, I would have the red mug more in focus, because although it is not the focal point of the photo, it’s an important subject. But other than that I’m glad I captured this!

Tales for Autumn

The original was interesting, but it was blurry and the artist had used a modern looking planner-type book for their subject. I thought the surrounding leaves called for a more traditional, old looking novel to be the subject. To make the overall photo look soft and dreamy, I took my aperture down the farthest it could go to blur the background and edges. It ended up blurring more than I had expected, but I decided to keep the effect (now I think it’s too much and I’ll do it a little differently next time).

As one can see from my photo, all I had to do was to let the king lie down and place a bishop standing over it. The lighting was hard to copy since there wasn’t any sunlight the day I took it so I used my lamp light which was white to shine from the corner. However, I did not realize my sister’s homework sitting on the lamp until after I got done editing the picture; it was not supposed to be there. I had to take this picture at 1/60 shutter speed with an ISO of 1600.

But I decided to wait until the leaves were almost completely gone. And I finally got my image going. I love how the crook and twist of the tree is more visible so it has an eerie and mysterious look about it. I wish this wasn’t only an autumn theme picture because I wanted to do a lot more with this picture like a fantasy dream kind. But I love how it turned out and I wouldn’t change much of it. (:

In this assignment, we were given the task of re-creating a movie ad. I choose to re-create a 500 Days of Summer ad simply because it is one of my favorite movies. In the original movie ad, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the featured actor. I used Justin Balas as my model for the ad because he fit Joseph’s physical characteristics. I’m actually surprised that it turned out well, and how close my version was to the original. I wish I could have fixed the smear near his right shoulder.

This photo was challenging because my dog kept moving while I was taking the picture. Because of this I had to turn my shutter speed up to avoid any blur. When I went to look at the picture on my computer it turned out underexposed because of my shutter speed. Editing was complicated because his fur was dark and I wanted to really bring out the texture, but the background was pretty light. I enjoyed the challenge of taking this photo and photoshopping it. I think it turned out pretty good!

When I went out, I was looking for objects I can take at a unique angle. I came across this yellow flower that was in a grass lawn full of weeds, as if it didn’t belong there. To capture the flower at a unique angle, I laid on the grass and pointed the camera upwards towards the sky. One thing I would do differently is shoot the photograph where the house would stay out of the picture.

For our photoshop project, I attempted to make my friend Justin be the other Adam Levine. He and Adam had the same facial features and it worked really well. I was trying to match the lighting with the original photo but the lighting I took of Justin’s face was slightly brighter than Adam’s photo. I really love how both of their jaw lines are very similar, even they’re facial hair match up. I wish I could’ve matched the lighting perfectly with the original but I’m proud of what I made out of it.

This photo was developed from one of my life goals to scream with Chris Tucker and my love for the Rush Hours series. Additionally, I believe Jackie Chan is a really great actor and taking his face would be such an honor. So I took this Photoshop lesson as an opportunity to complete a life goal. I had to lessen the opacity of the eraser to about 25 percent to blend my forehead with Jackie’s forehead. Also, I had to darken my skin to a golden yellow skin color to match his. Lastly, I just had to rotate my face a little to match my face with his head, which turned out quite well in my opinion.

The car windows were foggy inside and my friend and I were driving back from Tacoma. I wrote “HAIR” on the window, and waited for some sort of light source to illuminate the scene. I had the perfect opportunity to take stop-action pictures of birds flying within their coop, but before the birds became disrupted by my presence, I got the chance to capture the peaceful nature of the doves. First I took this with the intent of using rule of thirds, but I ended up executing it wrong by putting it in a horizontal format. The picture had too much “dead space” of blank wood. I cropped it into a vertical format, still trying to capture rule of thirds, and it looked a lot better. I love how the colors are all alike and very gentle, adding to the atmosphere of calm. I also like the way the dove’s whiteness stands out and draws attention to the subject; it also keeps the photo “alive”.

This photo was taken on the Rogers campus. This is a wide aperture type of photo. Notice how the only thing even close to in focus is the tree branch. The background is so out of focus that it almost looks like it is painted. This was done on purpose with an aperture of about 5.4. I really like this photo because it describes exactly what I was supposed to do. The only thing that creeps me out about this photo is the dust and dirt hanging off of this single tree branch…. ew

To start off with I love this photo probably even more then the last photo I posted just because the green in the background just makes this photo look really cool. Anyways what I attempted to do in this photo is use the rule of thirds because the green in the background seemed like it would be a good thing to contrast with Bear coming off the jump. I can’t really remember what settings I used but I know I had to mess with the shutter speed a lot and emphasis on the a lot. Lastly I am really satisfied with this photo because of how many tries I needed before I really got the perfect one. What I would probably do different with this photo is actually maybe bring Bear more closer to the middle instead of having him so far to the left but other then that I’m really satisfied.

When I took this picture I was thinking about my sister and how her husband is leaving soon to go to Iraq. I took her to where I could see her Silhouette and tried to get a cool angle and then I also put her in a frame to capture a moment. My shutter speed was 1/1250 seconds and my aperture was at 4.0. Abstract of Metals

With this photo I was trying to attempt to make the piece of metal look interesting to look at. For a light source I put light behind the metal and on the left hand side of it. I like how the metal gives the illusion that it just keeps continuing throughout the darkness. For a white balance I set it at fluorescent, and I focused on the ridges in the center of the metal to make sure it would have a little texture.

I just used the normal lens that was on the school’s camera but I got really close to the slinky. I took the picture next to a window so I could use as much natural light as I could. Tea and truffles

The assignment I chose to show was for food photography. The recipe I did was chocolate truffles. In this photo I did a short depth of focus to get the blur of the tea cup in the background. Only to focus on my main dessert, the truffles, so the eyes don’t wander off into other parts of the photo. The background I picked gave it a very dreamy look to it and I thought that it give off a relaxed feel to it. I used as much natural light as possible to make it more appealing compared to indoor lights. One thing I noticed is the more natural light, the more the shutter speed has to be higher which makes it easier so I don’t get as much shake.

I took this photo for my food photography assignment in my Digital Photo II class. My ISO was at 400 and my shutter speed was 1/30 to compensate for the dark room and I shot in Manual mode my aperture was at f/4.0 so that I would be able to keep the shutter speed faster without over-darkening the photo. This was one of my favorite pictures from this assignment.

I took this photo for my weather/weathered assignment. I thought it looked cool with the snow surrounding the rust. It somewhat frames the rust. I found the depth of field nice. The background is very out of focus which allows your attention to be on the main subject. I though it was cool how I was able to have both weather and weathered in this photo.

A Tiny Pop of Color

I took this picture for my weathered theme assignment. My ISO was set to 200, and my aperture was f/5.0. I like this photo because it looks good in black and white, and the rose adds just enough color to make the picture pop. After I used a levels adjustment, I then converted the picture to black and white, using the history brush tool to bring back the color in the rose. I decreased the saturation in the rose slightly so that it didn’t take away from the rest of the photo.

Silhouettes, a project that dared to capture my creativity. The sun was ripe, like a Florida Orange, waiting to be picked by my cannon camera. The day consisted of capturing bland silhouette photographs with a couple of young blokes and a perfect day to do it. Like every other project, I push myself to the brink of exhaustion to capture what I believe is a pure masterpiece. I had one shot, one moment to paint this beautiful silhouette upon the innards of my memory card. 3. 2. 1. Blast off! I waited until the opportune time, just clicking the shutter once with a quietly quiet and quick speed. Viola, pure perfection. I came in like Alexander Supertramp into the wild, and I came out victorious. I plan for perfection and I shoot for perfection, nothing less.

I took this picture outside by the baseball fields at Rogers! It was a clear sunny day and extremely cold but my dear pal Mr. Brayden Richards threw up his hands and I captured it. This was the picture I turned in for the sillouhette project. I like how the sun is right where his hands are and how blue the sky is. I darkened the blacks more to make it even darker and the contrast turned out great! The blue is very vibrant and I love it.

I really enjoyed taking this photo because of how different it is from your typical assignment. I set the ball on the edge of the truck so that there was both use of lines as well as rule of thirds. This picture was a part of my slow shutter speed assignment. I had my little brother sit very still, and then flailed a lighter around his face. I had to take this picture multiple times, for the litters trail looked odd or my little brother moved. I am very proud of this picture, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Duck in the Water

I was attempting to take slow shutter speed photos of the water but this duck kept distracting me so I finally just took a picture of it. I was trying to get its foot in the photo under the water as well. I love the reflection, and that you can see the ripples and the ducks foot, But I think the photo is too grainy.

Honestly Defining Range, HDR, is one project that I spoke through with a glorious photograph. While accidently stumbling upon a field, my camera seemed to be drawn to this disintegrating excuse of a fence. Was it fate or something more? Deciding it to be a moment that might not last forever, I threw out my tripod, prepared my camera with a staggering shutter speed of 1/250 second, an F-Stop of 4.0, an HDR setting of +2 and -2, and began to do what I do best. Within one attempt, I had captured a photograph worthy of blog posting. I don’t want to toot my own horn here, but I believe that this photograph could win the national title for HDR. I hope you enjoy this photograph and that it brings you into an alternate universe of perfection and beauty.

Zombie Dolls

This December my Digital Photo II class took a field trip to Seattle. My friends and I were walking through the shops when we came across these little zombie dolls. I thought they were adorable and I felt like I needed to take a picture of them. I had a shutter speed of 1/40 and an ISO of 800.

Hotel Motel

You know, I just really tried to capture the raw emotion and feel of “old” Seattle. I really wanted to make this photo look like it was taken in the old days so I converted it to grey scale and turned up the contrast and such. I am pretty happy with the results! The only thing I wish I could have done was stay and shoot in Seattle longer. #swag!

Pure Perfection

While out on one of my soul journeys through the wilds of the beautiful Orting valley I just so happened to stumble upon this majestic antique store. While taking effortless, classic pictures with my camera, there was a gust of wind that seemed to whisper, “You Are Photography”. HDR is one of my many specialties, (although I excel in every aspect of photography). After contemplating my approach, I whipped out my tripod, screwed the camera on nice and tight, and now I give you my masterpiece. You’re welcome. Happy with the results you ask? I suppose you could say I am, but I am not surprised because I am on a whole other level. Till next time amateurs.

Glowing Rings

With this photo I attempted to do a special effect using a slow shutter speed. I started spinning the lens of my camera shooting at some Christmas lights, but then I realized that when I unfocused the camera and motioned the camera in circles, it looked way cooler. I thought that this photo was very unique and I like the pink and purple colors the lights made.

This is a photograph of my sister Amanda. For a project, I had to take senior portraits. Luckily my sister is a senior. The boat was borrowed by a neighbor; it was interesting to get that to my back yard. This was one of the beast experiences I have had with photography. We both had fun and if I had to, I would do it all over again.

This photo was very fun to take! I asked a friend of mine to hold out his cell phone so the light would show up when I took the picture. He spun around in circles and the effect his cell phone gave ended up looking pretty interesting! It was a 30 second shutter speed which allowed the cool light to show up. It was cold and rainy while doing this photo, but it ended up looking awesome and was totally worth it.

A day in Seattle

I took this photo while on our class trip to Seattle. I took this photo for our architecture assignment. This is in front of the Space Needle, and is a pyramid of Christmas light balls. And also a fountain. I liked this photo and how the clouds were behind it. I think this photo turned out pretty well.

I took this picture at Rogers High School right outside the cafeteria. The background came out better than expected. I was really just trying to capture his smile and his true happiness in the picture not a fake smile. I didn’t really try anything special just started snapping off photos. But I shout at a white balance of cloudy, and an iso of 400. I am not to good at this photography stuff but I try.

When I went out I was looking for things I could take pictures of on the school grounds. This looked kind of cool to me. So I climbed into the bush and started getting different angles but I liked this one the best. I like it because the background looks painted and it looks like it is on a canvas. The shutter speed was set at 1/200 and the aperture was set a 4.5. I hope you enjoy this picture. 

I really enjoyed this picture. For my night photo I wanted to go somewhere that was pretty, so I chose the waterfront. I traveled to different places by the water and on the dock taking pictures of the ocean and the lights on the other side. What makes this photo w=one of my favorites is the smoke from the building. I liked how clear it came up in the photo.

Who Needs Gravity

What I really attempted to do in this photo was to really catch my friend Khrys Ross the Boss in action. I actually had to take this photo a million times before I really go this perfect one that is posted right now. For this photo I adjusted the shutter speed so that it was high but not too high and the fact is that for any photo you just kind of have to mess with the camera until you get the right shutter speed. Also what is really unique about this photo is that my friend Khrys Ross the Boss is on the vert wall in a Seattle skate park. I’m actually really satisfied with this photo because the lighting and everything was good that day because it was nice sunny day. What I would have done differently on this probably get a little higher shutter speed just because I feel like it’s a little blurry but not enough to be noticeable.

I thought this picture was really cool because I got the basketball in focus and she is slightly out of focus. I took this photo for my senior collage assignment even though she is a sophomore at GKHS. I used photoshop to make the background black and white and leave the ball in color. My aperture value was 4.5. My shutter speed was 1/25.

I chose this picture because it is something different than what we are used to seeing. I set the shutter speed a little slower than normal to allow me to zoom in and out. It was at about a half second, and as I pressed the shutter I zoomed in and out to create the visual effect seen in the photo. I like this photograph because of the color, and how unique the assignment was.

Snowy Night

I took this photo for our slow shutter speed night photography assignment. My shutter speed was set to 30 seconds, and my ISO was set at 100. I took this photo of my front yard with the intention of capturing the falling snow, but the snowflakes were too fine. However, I really liked how the light across the street casted a red glow, while the light from my yard gave a bluish glow, making the photo more interesting.

I love this Picture; the blue background is so vivid even though the day was a bit crummy. But I think it turned out good. I took about five of the same pictures with different props, first an umbrella (because it raining) then a series of fake flowers and the one in the picture was a best it somehow feels right with all the colors in the background and her makeup. Even though the flower was fake she thought it smelled good so she took a big whiff and smiled she didn’t even know I was taking the picture.

It was a wonderful Thursday afternoon, me and some buddies if mine decided to take a journey to the depths of Tacoma. We snapped photos all night and day to accomplish our goal of taking the most fabulous picture ever. Day had become dusk, dusk had become night. And as the clock struck midnight, I brainstormed the most brilliant idea ever. I found some lights that were not too bright that stared out into the water, who stared out into the city. I twisted the camera to an angle to give the image an interesting perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed the photo, probably the best picture I have ever taken. The only thing I could find wrong with the photo is that some of the lights are a little too bright. But I had to have a long enough exposure to bring out the light on the water and other stuff. I used a thirteen second exposure for these effects.

Slow Love

What we had to do was have an added light source to the picture and have our shutter speed at the right speed to get the picture. My ISO was set at 1600. My shutter speed at 5 seconds. My aperture was f/22. I like this picture because I think it just looks cool and has a really cool effect to it. It was actually kinda hard to get this picture because I couldn’t seem to get the shutter speed slow enough to complete the heart. But after a few tries, I got it.

This photo is of one of my long time friends Courtney Johnston. For the assignment we had to do a senior collage and right when I heard that I immediately thought of this stair case. I like how the stairs are not all one color, there are parts that faded out and then there are dark spots. When taking the photo I made sure I got her to sit in a way where there would be almost no sun on her face, and I wanted a unique angle.

I took this photo for our Slow Shutter Speed assignment. I wanted to get a clear shot of the inlet and the houses on the other side of the lake. Since it was dark out I had to slow down the shutter speed and widen the lens opening so I could get a good exposure. I was really happy with how the photo came out.

Talking to myself

What I attempted to do was demonstrate double exposure in a way while having some sense to make a story. So I just had my friend sit in a different position almost the opposite side of where they sat. Instead of the same basic pose it looked like they were two different people, both in different poses. As for camera setting I had my shutter speed set to “bulb” then applied the light source manually with a flashlight. I did not have my flash on, and the room was completely dark. What I like the most about the photo is how clear the exposure turned out, and was not blurry. Also I appreciate my friend in the photo who stayed entirely still without moving throughout the whole process.

With this photograph it was really hard to capture the cricket perfect. I was following this little bugger up a tree while trying to take a macro photo without trying to loose it. It was jumping from branch to branch and finally I got a good shot. The setting I had used was ISO 400, f 5.6, and a shutter speed of 1/125. I found these to be the best setting due to the bright sun out.

I took this photo on my front porch this October; we have a fall theme set up. I really like how the hay looks bundled up. I took this on a day that was kind of gloomy so it wasn’t so bright and summery looking. For this photograph my camera settings were set at, ISO: 100, shutter speed: 1/60sec, and my aperture was F/11. This photo uses the rule of thirds and also fill the frame.

I took this picture during the morning when the sun has just come out. I actually didn’t do anything special for this picture; it was more of an accident. I was really taking pictures of people’s expression for my class’s September theme. I was just walking along next to these trees and decided to take pictures just for the fun of it. This came out and I really liked it. You can see the textures of the tree bark. I like how the lines on the leaf are outline. I also like the silhouette of the leaf. I think the only thing I would change is the angle, maybe if I took it on a more unique angle it would have look better.

I took this photo for my October Theme assignment. I wanted to get the colors of the fall leaves without just taking a picture of some leaves on a branch so I decided to get a photo of the fallen ones by the tree trunk. I like the sort of orangish-red tone that the photo has since it’s a fall themed photograph. I really liked the sharp focus that I got on the leaves in the forefront and the tree trunk and the colors in the photo.

I love this picture; it’s so close I can hardly believe I took it! This is a small purple flower with a yellow middle; I was surprised when the illumination in the back the sun was in the opposite direction. I switched the lens, meaning I turned it backwards. I had to be really still. This is very difficult when you’re kneeling in the grass; I love the out come and hope I can take more like this

Morning Dew

This picture was a good shot based on the weather outside which was dark, and cloudy I set the ISO to 100 because there wasn’t much light outside. I used 1/80 of a second to avoid blurring the subject was closer than normal. My subject was centered, and there was a bit of blur at the top. I like the fact that I got to check out the ISO settings, and finally got it right. The color of the photo is clear, and crisp.

This photo was taken at the Rogers Daffodil Princess Correlation. The winner of the event was Sarah Piek, escorted by Casey Lockey. This photo turned out better than most of the other photos I took because the lighting was perfect, along with their smiles. The assignment required the picture to not be posed. With the students looking at the crowd, away from the camera, I accomplished this task.

What I tried to achieve in this photo was to pretty much to show the emphasis of how much the weather is changing and now that it is fall time the leaves are falling. Also another thing I was striving for was to show how when the leaves fall on things it makes nice looking scenery. One thing I did some what unique I guess was just got eye level with the bench and ended up with this nice looking photo. Also another thing I did to get the shot to look real nice was changed the white balance and after I did that the photo came out real nice. I really suggest changing your white balance a lot! I am satisfied with the results I don’t know what else I would really do to change it just because I feel that I took this photo to the best of my abilities. I really hope everyone enjoys this photo.

In this photo I tried to do something different with the picture. Taking it from a different angle. I think what I would have done differently was that I didn’t put so much of the sidewalk into the photo but besides that I think it is a good photo. My ISO setting was set to 200 and my shutter speed was 1/40 sec. My aperture was f/14 as well as my f-stop.

Pretty Flower

I took this photo for our macro assignment. My ISO setting was at 100 because I was outside and I wanted as little grain as possible. I used the reverse lens technique to get the extreme macro look. It looked the best out of all of the pictures I took using that technique. I am pretty happy with the results. If I did this assignment over I wouldn’t use the flowers at the school because it seems like everyone did. I also took this picture into photoshop and played with the coloring a little bit. I liked how it was a little darker in the back.

In this photo my family and my self went up to Copley Lake up past a little town. It was a nice family trip and I remembered to take my camera. It was so beautiful up there and I was excited. I took so many pictures with fill the frame and rule of thirds with my family members then I realized the reflection in the water. That’s when I was focused on getting a good picture of that and I believe I accomplished it. My shutter speed was 1/640 and my aperture was 3.5. I had fun taking pictures and trying to make it a great photo. I hope you enjoy!
